There were smiles, laughter and even tears this morning at Baldasso Cortese's Biggest Morning Tea. Orchestrated by one of our Interior Designers, Lara Pillot, our team accompanied by friends and family baked their weekends away in preparation for the morning. Whilst we gathered to enjoy everyone's yummy dishes (some photographed in the slideshow above) we were reminded of why we were advocating and raising awareness in the first place...
Cancer effects every family in some way or another. In fact, an average of 90 people a day in Victoria are diagnosed with some form of the dreadful disease. The Cancer Council are not government-funded; they rely solely on donations from the public to fund cancer research, prevention and support. Since the commencement of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea in 1993, Australian's 5-year relative survival rate for breast cancer has increased from 48% to 68%, smoking rates among Australian adults have decreased by more than HALF - leaving only 17% of Australian's still smoking, and last year alone, fitted 236 people with a free wig after they lost their hair.
We would like to thank Dr Fiona Bruinsma, Cancer Council Research Coordinator, for coming in and speaking to us about where and what our contributions go to. We would also like to thank her for her work and dedication to such a vitally important cause.
We are proud to announce that in just one hour, whilst we consumed a diverse range of both sweet and savoury delicacies, our team raised $151, bringing our total raised funds up to $476, just $24 away from our goal of $500!
The Australia's Biggest Morning Tea campaign doesn't end until the 30th of June, so we still have plenty of time to reach and blitz our goal. To help raise vital funds for cancer research, prevention and support, please click the link here.
Thank you to those who have already donated, including the Built Environment Channel, it is so greatly appreciated.
UPDATE (4:15pm): After counting additional donations that staff have made during the day, we have now raised $521 and reached our goal!!! We will continue to monitor further contributions over the next few weeks and update you all on our final count!
UPDATE (15 June 2018): A BIG thank you to everyone who contributed to the event as we raised above our target with a total of $638.85! We look forward to returning next year for a bigger and better event!
