Currently under construction the St. Monica's Senior Centre is a modernisation effort aimed at increasing and diversifying the learning environments of year 5-6 students from a 20th C. based classroom model to a modern learning environment. An underutilised outdoor courtyard of the existing 1918 heritage building will be infilled to provide a new indoor space. This project carefully integrates the existing building fabric, reconfiguring the courtyard into an internal modern learning space that will operate as a single facility.
Classrooms adjoin a presentation space which allows a flexible interchange between class based learning, collaborative group work and individual learning. The interaction of the whole group as a community showcases a mature, modern learning philosophy that facilitates diverse learning possibilities.
The project is due for completion early November 2016.
