The multi-purpose hall (MPH) at St Anne's Primary School sits between a cream brick art deco church and a red brick 19th Century school building. It facilitates both the primary school and the church community and can be configured to support both groups simultaneously.
Special consideration was given to its form and scale to preserve existing site lines and connect with its neighbouring buildings. The stepped form of the hall allows day-light into adjoining classrooms on the west while making reference to the church’s form. Warm and generous on the inside, this MPH activates previously underutilised space and contributes more than a building to the school and parish precinct.
